NEW IMPLEMENT FOR GARLIC PLANTING and HARVESTING

I designed, engineered and built a low horsepower ergonomically friendly planting and harvesting implement for alliums. The implement was designed to work on raised beds or prepared ground.

Here at Schuster Farm with our heavy clay soils the machine works better on raised beds and is more cost effective. When the machine is set up for planting 2 people sit side by side and place the bulbs in the opened furrows. This ensures 100 percent proper seed placement. A closure plate covers both furrows and levels off the top of the bed. Four gage wheels and adjustable furrow openers control the depth of the furrows.

When shifting over to harvesting operations the furrow openers and closure plate are removed and a plant lifting plate, under cutter, and conveyor system is attached. Change over from one operation to another takes less than 30 minutes.  The implement also come with a drip line irrigation attachment, can be set up for transplanting 6 to 14 inch potted transplants, can be used to plant and harvest potatoes from raised beds, and is U.S. Patent Pending.
